Playoff Pairings was created by Bernard Condrau
Team pairings in this season's playoffs will be different from the past seasons, following the decision at the 30 June 2013 organizational meeting to introduce balanced divisions.
Championship, first 2 rounds
The 4 top teams in each division will play the first 2 rounds of the playoffs within the division to evaluate the division winner. Each division's 4th ranked team will play the 1st ranked team, and the 3rd ranked team will play the 2nd ranked team. 1st and 2nd ranked team will have home rights. Afterwards, the winner of those 2 matches will play eachother to evaluate the division winner. Home rights according to who was higher ranked in the regular season.
Championship, finals and semi-finals
Division winners will play each other to determine the league champion, runner-up and 3rd place. After the regular season and before the playoffs, the best team ranking within the league will determine the pairing of the division winners for semi-finals (note: This is not the ranking after the first 2 rounds of the playoffs!).
For example, if the highest ranked team of the Stripes division is ranked no. 1 in the league after the regular season, then the division playoff winner (winner after 2 rounds) of the Stripes division (which might or might not be the same team) will be paired with the division playoff winner of that division, where the highest ranked team in the division after the regular season was the lowest of all divisions' highest ranked teams.
Home rights for all playoff matches will always be given to the team which was ranked higher after the regular season, comparing the paired teams for the match.
Best of the Rest
Best of the Rest playoffs will be played in one bracket, same as in previous seasons.

Thanks for posting that Bernard, I know that my players have been asking about this.I know that I'm not very bright but it seems as if what you've written is slightly different to what is said in the meeting minutes.Regarding the minutes it is stated that 'The last two rounds are played for league championship, e.g. solids vs stripes, winner of highs vs lows ball division. What you wrote seems to say that we would revert to overall league status when playing the semis. Can we clarify please

The wording of the minutes was meant as an example to explain the concept. Rather than pairing teams randomly or in a fixed order in the semi-finals, the division winners are paired according to overall performance in the regular season.
Within the divisions, for rounds 1 and 2 of the playoffs, teams are also paired according to their overall performance in the regular season, not according to their performance in the division only.
I think this is a simple and consistent way to pair teams.
Certainly, it could be done differently, consider ranking in division play only, for example. This would require additional views and sorting algorithms to determine sequence of teams, and to make the criteria for pairing understood.
